Description of Tasks (Opis zadań):

The Post-Doc position is a vital part of a project Multitarget approach to break the vicious circle of tau pathology and neuroinflammation in Alzheimer’s disease: development of dual inhibitors of GSK-3β and IKK-β kinases.

The project is an answer to the lack of effective treatment for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and addresses a growing interest in the development of multifunctional ligands targeting the most relevant AD pathological processes. Recently, the search for disease-modifying therapies for AD has focused on tauopathy and neuroinflammation. GSK-3β is a kinase that is directly involved in these processes and its upregulation in AD leads to tau hyperphosphorylation resulting in dysfunction of axonal transport and increased inflammatory response. The inflammation process in neurons is mediated by NF-κB complex that plays a pivotal role in the immune response.

The successful candidate will be involved in:

  • Design of new compounds with the required biological activities and physicochemical properties
  • Designing and planning of synthetic routes
  • Synthesis of compounds (determination of structure and purity using NMR and LCMS techniques)
  • Data analysis (structure-activity and structure-physicochemical propoerties relationship)
  • Preparation of manuscript drafts
  • Promotion of results at seminars and conferences
  • Supervision of junior members of the group
  • Contribution to the efficient functioning of the lab including administrative and organizational tasks
